Get a Professional Custom Email for Free

Register a domain with Cloudflare and route emails to your existing Gmail account. No extra fees, full privacy.

Want a professional email address like [email protected] without paying for Google Workspace or Microsoft 365? Cloudflare Email Routing makes it completely free and simple. You can forward all emails sent to your custom domain directly to your Gmail inbox.

Why This Setup?

Prerequisites

Before starting:

Step 1: Register a Domain with Cloudflare

  1. Go to dash.cloudflare.com and sign up / log in.
  2. Click Add a domain or Register domain.
  3. Search for your desired domain name and complete the purchase (Cloudflare offers competitive pricing with WHOIS privacy included).
  4. Once registered, Cloudflare automatically becomes your DNS provider.

Step 2: Enable Cloudflare Email Routing

  1. In your Cloudflare dashboard, select your domain.
  2. Navigate to Email > Email Routing in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Enable Email Routing or Onboard Domain.
  4. Cloudflare will automatically add the required MX records (and a TXT record for verification).
  5. Confirm the DNS changes. Propagation usually takes a few minutes to an hour.

Note: Remove any existing MX records from other providers first to avoid conflicts.

Step 3: Add and Verify Your Gmail Destination Address

This is the key step for receiving emails in Gmail.

  1. In Email Routing, go to the Destination Addresses tab (account-level, not per-domain).
  2. Click to add a new destination and enter your full Gmail address (e.g., [email protected]).
  3. Cloudflare will immediately send a verification email to that Gmail address.
  4. Open your Gmail inbox, find the email from Cloudflare (check spam if needed), and click the Verify email address link.
  5. Once verified, your Gmail address is ready to receive forwarded emails from any of your Cloudflare domains.

Step 4: Create Custom Email Routing Rules

  1. Go back to your domain's Email Routing page.
  2. Click Create routing rule.
  3. Set the Email pattern:
  4. Select Send to an email and choose your verified Gmail address as the destination.
  5. Save the rule.

Testing Your Setup

Send a test email from another account to your new custom address (e.g., [email protected]). It should appear in your Gmail inbox within seconds to a minute.

Important: Cloudflare Email Routing is for receiving only. To reply with your custom domain from Gmail, set up "Send mail as" using Gmail's SMTP (requires an App Password if 2FA is enabled).
